You know, I've watched this man take credit for something he didn't do. The success of the last world cup wasn't the doing of Bruce Arena, it was the doing of what club/international soccer experience did for our players. He had players at their prime in 2002 playing overseas, getting better exposure to top flight talent. Four years Arena has had this team and the opportunity to properly prepare them for the world cup. On the biggest stage in all of sports, in front of millions and millions of soccer fans around the world, he led our beloved team to shame and disgrace. To make matters worse, he didn't even shake hands with all the players and coaching staff from Ghana. And he is supposed to be the leader of MNT? His management in all three managers were horrible, to say the least.
By far, Ghana was the better team, they were faster, quicker, extremely technical and applied their tactics as good as we've seen thus far. Arena had our players playing slow, Beasley in the middle of the park? What in the heck was that. Beasley needs to be in the attack! He had a bench full of studs and he makes decisions that a u7 rec coach would make.
I salute the MNT for their effort but their lack of success in this world cup is due solely by their leader and team coach/manager, Bruce Arena. I truly believe our leadership can do better in providing a leader and role model for our MNT. your thoughts? |

I believe they will make a change, but not as quickly as other countries. He will ride out his contract and then be gone. 8 years is a long tenure for a coach that has not had great results. He has done a good job getting us to a point, but someone else needs to come in to take us to the next level.
The bigger question: who are the possible coaches?
I don't know of any US based coaches who should be promoted.
We only have a short time until the next international event, right?
USSF needs to take a good look at the player pool and their playing styles, then find a coach with a style that plays to our strengths. the talent pool is pretty good, we just need to pick the right mix. Keep Convey on the left to fire those crosses and get someone like Twellman in there to put them on frame. Simple.
Hey, while we are at it, can we change our name to something cool. Look at all the good ones...Soccerroos, Black Stars, Les Blues, Soca Warriors, Kaka. Really, Sam's Army is so cold war. And, let's get a new chant too. U-S-A, U-S-A, We can do better. |
